Candy always makes a good prize!

Coming up with fun activities that everyone will enjoy at a bridal or baby shower can be a challenge. You want something that will capture and maintain the attention of your guests and ensure they’re all having a good time.  Typically as a guideline you want to play 2-3 games at the most during the shower so your guests have time to mingle and spend time with the honored expectant mother or bride-to-be. Here is a classic game with a fun twist that we want to share with you. So many games can be theme specific, but this one will go well with any theme and will give your guests a sweet treat to enjoy during or after the party!

Candy Bar Memory Game

First you’ll need some materials to get started. Poster board, wrapping paper or fabric that matches your theme, card stock, glue, typed words or images associated with baby or brides depending on the type of shower (just remember you need pairs), typed or sticker numbers (1-24 is good), and Velcro.

Setup:

  1. Cover the poster board in the fabric or wrapping paper you’ve chosen to coordinate with the colors or patterns of the shower theme.
  2. Fold 24 cut out card stock rectangles so they look like tiny cards. Using glue attach the same wrapping paper or fabric you used to cover the poster board to the front of the cards as well.
  3. Prepare the memory squares. Remember you can choose any number of squares that you want to make this game bigger or smaller, just remember you need to have an even number for the pairs of words. Glue the images or words to the inside of the card stock so they can only be seen when the card is open. The final step is to glue the number on the front of the card.

Here is the start of a Memory Board. Choose colors that match your theme!

  4. Next, you need to attach the memory squares to the memory board. Glue each square on the board scattering the pairs randomly. Use the Velcro to keep the cards closed by attaching a small piece to the inside of each memory square and number the front. Now, you’re ready to play!

Go around the room and ask your guests to try to find pairs on the memory board. When they find a pair they get candy for a prize. This is where the fun twist comes in! Get creative and choose candy that is associated with the word or image pair the guest has identified. Here are some examples:

For Baby Showers:
Epidural–Lifesavers
Dirty Diaper–Tootsie Roll
Breastfeeding–Milky Way or Milk Duds
Daddy–Pop Rocks OR Sugar Daddy

For Bridal Showers:
Diamond–Ring Pop
Nicknames–Sweettarts
Vows–Gushers
Groom–Mr. Goodbar or Big Hunk
